God Has Not Forgotten You

Isaiah 49

“But Zion said, ‘The LORD has forsaken me; my Lord has forgotten me.’ (v. 14)

Because of their captivity in Babylon, the Israelites began to wonder if God had forgotten them. Have difficult circumstances ever caused you to become discouraged and doubt if you are on God’s radar anymore? Sometimes we question if He sees or hears us, or even notices the struggles we are facing. But listen to God’s reply:

‘Can a woman forget her nursing child, that she should have no compassion on the son of her womb? Even these may forget, yet I will not forget you. Behold, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands; your walls are continually before Me.’ (vv. 15 – 16)

God reassures us that our difficult days don’t mean His compassion for us has changed. It is greater than the devotion of a nursing mother to her baby. He loves us so much that He has engraved us on the palms of His nail scarred hands. God is always mindful of us. He cares about our security. He wants us to flourish in His love and faithfulness.

God’s faithfulness is not just something of the past or even the present. It extends to the future. His promises are dependable. So while in the middle of difficult days, we must cling to His promises and be encouraged. They give us hope and provide comfort. He promises that those who wait on Him will not be disappointed.
