At Wit’s End

Have you ever felt overwhelmed and beyond your limits? Have you ever wondered if maybe God has forgotten you? Or wondered if God sometimes allows too much to continue for way too long? Have you ever wondered, “How long, O God, will you allow these difficulties to continue? Do you see us struggling? Do you know that sometimes our hope runs low?”

God sees you.

He says, “Hey, I see you! I know you! I want you! Come, let me wrap my arms around you and hold you close.” And as we do, we hear His heartbeat. It pulses deep within our souls; His love that assures us of His presence. “Do not be afraid, for I am with you! I will never abandon you or forget about you!” (Isaiah 41:10).

He says, “Trust Me. I want you to cast all your cares and anxieties, all your frustrations, fears, and “too muches” on Me. I care. (1 Peter 5:7). I promise that I will give you the strength and courage you need to bring you to a place of restoration.” (1 Peter 5:10).

This is grace.

God has a purpose for us in whatever circumstances we are facing. But I believe that how we face them has great significance. We can either push back and grumble (or worse!) at God for allowing such things to happen to us, missing out on the blessings He has for us right in the middle of the difficult circumstances, or we can choose to trust Him.

Psalm 37:5 says, “Commit your way to the Lord; trust in Him and He will do this.” Trust Him in the darkness. Trust Him to fulfill His purposes for you. Our difficult circumstances cannot sway God’s intentions for us. Believe that God will accomplish all His purposes concerning us (Isaiah 46:10).

He longs to rescue us and make a way where there seems to be only giant concrete walls. Sometimes we need to come to our wit’s end, feeling completely helpless, in order for us to experience that He truly is more than we could ever hope or imagine. (Ephesians 3:20).

This is trust.

One of God’s specialties is making the impossible possible. He can make beauty out of our messy, broken pieces and bring joy out of our sorrows. He can fill our empty hands with blessings as we hold them open before Him.

When we find ourselves at our wit’s end, it is the perfect time to draw close to God and to listen to His heartbeat. He loves us. He cares for us. Soak it in, and find rest.
