Night Vision

God is never surprised by nor afraid of the circumstances that unfold in our lives. He is never caught off guard. When we are feeling scared and overwhelmed, we need to remember that “He knows what is in the darkness, and light dwells with Him.” (Daniel 2:22).

It’s easy to get disoriented in the dark and to feel alone, but God is with us even in the darkness, and He never gets lost or confused. “If I say, ‘Surely the darkness shall cover me, and the light about me be night,’ even the darkness is not dark to You, the night is bright as the day for darkness is as light with You.” (Psalm 139:11-12). In other words, God has night vision!

When we feel like God has forgotten us in the darkness, we need to remember that He has promised to be with us, to strengthen us, and to give us help. He is holding on to us! (Isaiah 41:10, 14).

He promises to keep our feet from slipping in the dark (Psalm 121:3) and to provide all that we need (Philippians 4:19). We can take great hope that His resources will never run out. He promises to give us strength and the ability to navigate well the path He has put before us. (Isaiah 40:28-31).

So, when we find ourselves in darkness, we need not panic. Rather, we must trust Him–even though we cannot see, He continues to be trustworthy and faithful. We must delight in Him–the darkness can be a reminder to draw closer to Him and know Him more! We must commit–to walk in faithful obedience even when we don’t understand. And we must be still–waiting patiently for Him, believing that He will do ALL that He has said. He doesn’t need us to step in and try to fix things  our way. Being still is a position of surrender to what He is working in our lives. (Psalm 37:1-7).

Lord, I am thankful that You have night vision! I don’t understand the circumstances surrounding me, but You see perfectly, and I am trusting that You are working all things–even my current darkness–for my good and Your glory! (Romans 8:28-30).
