Yesterday was Good Friday. Tomorrow is Easter Resurrection Sunday. Today is the in-between. Yesterday was marked by confusion, despair, and the worst kind of bad. Tomorrow is marked by understanding, joy, and the promise of good. But today? Today is the placeholder in-between. But it isn’t insignificant. Not at all.
Life is full of in-between days and how we live them is important. David’s Psalms are filled with the emotions of one well acquainted with the in-between. In Psalm 13, David asks, maybe even whines, “How long, O Lord? Will You forget me forever?” His in-between was filled with mystery, injustice, and sorrow. David complained. He got angry. He grieved and boldly asked for God’s deliverance. But he also reminded himself of God’s character. He regularly affirmed his trust in Him. This is significant.
We don’t know how long our in-between days will last and we can grow restless and afraid. Like David, we may doubt and grow discouraged. But we must remind ourselves that the in-between is not the end of the story. God promises to rescue us, to redeem and restore all that is broken. We must trust that He is working in the in-between days, even when He seems silent.
Join me in trusting God in the in-between. We must not become consumed with the darkness of yesterday or the silence of the in-between. Hold on for Hope is coming! God is good and faithful! He is in control of all of our yesterdays, every tomorrow, and every single day of our in-betweens.
